During the first quarter of the current year, CoI referred 1509 accused in corruption cases to the competent courts.

CoI legal office clarified, in its quarterly report, that the accused were referred to the courts, in 1001 corruption cases attached to projects coast 112 billion and 290 million I.D.

CoI legal office mentioned that the accused were geographically distributed to Risafa (238), Diwaniya (181), Karkh (174), Nineveh (170), Babel (146), Basrah (120), Najaf (95), Diyala (88), Nasiriyah (71), Saladin (67), Kirkuk (46), Karbalaa (33), Wassit (30), Messan (25), Muthanna (14) and Anbar (11).

On the other hand, CoI courts issued final decisions against (14) persons accused of corruption practices using their positions in governmental entities.

Sentences were varied between imprisonment for different periods and fines according to CoI Legal Office report. The accused were from different offices in the ministries of: Oil, Electricity, Water Resources, Interior, Labor & Social Affairs, Justice and the provincial councils of Messan, Al Najaf and Karbalaa.

CoI Legal Office issued, last month, a list of (27) other employees whom final decisions were issued against with either imprisonment or fines over corruption practices during their service.
