On May eight of this year, Baghdad will host Baghdad International Forum titled ( Evaluation of the National Anti national Strategies and Stolen Assets Recovery …… A Comprehensive Vision for Honest Society)
During the sessions of the forum, delegates and representatives from different countries and number of the governmental and non-governmental parties, international, regional and local organizations and international experts in addition to the UN experts, will discuss different subjects on anti corruption efforts.
Participants will be able to give presentations of their countries experiences in fighting corruption and their strategies to spread the culture of integrity as a preventive measure that goes along with the deterrent actions against those may mismanage the public property and abuse their position and powers for their befits. The delegates will explain their countries programs in enhancing the bilateral and regional cooperation to recover stolen assets and extradite corrupts. Besides ways of implementing the articles of UN Convention against corruption in sharing knowledge and information among the states parties that approved the Convention. It is worthy mention; the UNCAC was ratified in 2003 and approved by the Iraqi Government in 2007 besides other 185 states.
In this forum to be organized by the CoI in cooperation with UNDP , Iraq delegate will present a detailed report on its national experience in fighting corruption since the falling of ex-regime in 2003, clearing the process of taking this responsibility in cooperation with the local anti corruption agencies such as the Joint Anti corruption Council, Board of Supreme Audits, Inspector General Offices, the Parliamentarian Anti corruption Committee and the Supreme Judicial Council.
This report will focus on the steps taken by Iraq towards implementing the United Nations Anti Corruption Convention as were admired by the UN teams from Jordan and Malaysia whom reviewed the Iraq response to the articles of the Convention. From another hand, the UN experts expressed their appreciation to the Iraq steps and they described them as the most remarkable ones among those presented by 12 state parties, which voluntarily presented their reports on implementing UNCAC.
It is expected that, at the side of the forum, bilateral and multilateral talks will take place between Iraq and the other participated states to set up the frameworks of cooperation in fighting corruption and stolen assets recovery and to extradite fugitive criminals as well as sharing experiences and information in respect of implementing the UN Convention.
