Mar 28 , 2013

Investigative team warns that batteries industry in Iraq is on the brink of collapse at the time when the need for their products increased and their uses multiplied at all fields of life.

The team emphasized that recovering the industry from the dark destiny requires accelerating the rehabilitation of production plants and the developing it according to big quality hops in the fields of the industry globally to return to meet the increasing local market demand of various kinds of batteries that is secured from external origins and burden the State budget annually with the financial burden of millions of hard currency.

CoI investigative team from prevention office during, his visit to the general company for batteries industry and field trips in its plants to have a look at the performance in its factories and different production lines, found out that using them for a long  time its depreciation and permanent or partial stoppage are common features of work in establishments that are no longer their products are dispensed by an office or house or person due to their relevance to many life-movement requirements.

The battery is the engine of the cars and all vehicles and other equipments, television and mobile player and wireless, computers and solar cells, watches, alarm clocks and even other cardiovascular health equipment set for many patients and toys also. While the reality of our batteries national production did not match the important moves in the technology of manufacturing and developing such goods on which major global companies are competing to invade their markets and win large financial returns.

General Manager of the company disclosed quite frankly to the team that production of the company`s factories fell to scary levels in some degree of paralysis and deadlock.

He explained reasons at the level of sectors production on level of sites and competence of production by saying that Babylon factories, aged nearly four decades are no longer able to continue production due to outdated equipment and a lack of spare parts for its engines and their production of liquid batteries is no longer commonly used because the demand turned to the imported dry type, which sank our domestic markets and came from different origins and has low or even poor quality.

The Director-General also complained of a phenomenon no longer confined to the production of his company but in most state offices as an approach and it is represented in ignoring the domestic production and turning towards meeting the needs through the imported goods despite assurances of Cabinet to rely on local production.

What increases the suffer of battery state company is the surplus of manpower because of returning those how dismissed to their job after collapsing dictatorship which lead to inflation stuff to (2100) employees, state company shall provide them with monthly salary in base of self funding at the time the production operations unprofitable.

The production lines problem of Al Noor factory for dry batteries are not differ from the suffer of Babylon factories where the lines which started production since 1974 under cooperation contract with the Japanese Hitachi company didn’t witness any update or rehabilitation program that led to loss spare parts which is necessary continuing its work while it was work three time to satisfy local market needs of batteries.

The DG talked about the problems of led foundry in Khan darry the specialized in extracting pure led through melting the remains of the old batteries are representing of the lack of cooperation of the ministries and governmental institute giving the consumed batteries as it was doing that previously and assembling operation are reduced and many employees are abstain from work in the foundry for its location far from their home and their fear from gas emission.

The employees in the foundry added that the reduction of their work give the chance to non experts to inter in to the led melting field with primary style and not clear specifications pulse increasing smuggling operation abroad.

The survey team reaches to number of suggestions and recommendations to increase Iraqi battery production to satisfy the local market and stop importing and the team call for rehabilitating factories with modern production lines to product batteries in good specifications met the consumer needs.

Some of the kinds which were suggested to be produced are mobile battery, remote control battery, computer battery, wireless battery for military force, connection system batteries for mobile towers and rechargeable batteries used in sun power system beside the common type called (Qallam).

The recommendations emphasized on the necessity of signing the sharing contract between batteries state company, Al Ezz, and Al Mansoor Company which manufacturing systems and sun power cells to provide it with batteries

And it encourages the ministries and governmental institute to fill its needs from the national production.

The survey teams recommended granting foundry employees dangerous allowances for working there and force the governmental offices sending their consumed batteries to the foundry to furnish raw materials and prevent sending it to unqualified and stop smuggling it from Iraq.

The team noticed there are a wide area belong to the battery stat company and many installations and warehouse belong to the same company which open the door for investment in it enrich the ministry and government treasury from its revenues.
