CoI Commissioner meets with Mr. AlSuheil … discussing Causes of Corruption and Means of Combating Corruption

In this meeting, the President of Commission of Integrity Judge Alaa Jwad Hameed has received the Iraqi CoR first deputy Mr. Qusay AlSuheil, who is now heading a committee to investigate the surrounding circumstances of the hard currency auctions at the center bank of Iraq.  

 

Mr. Hameed and Mr. AlSuheil discussed causes stand behind notorious cases of corruption in some of the state agencies. As well as the  required decisive measures to counter attempts of breaking laws and abuse of powers to gain illicit enrichment, embezzlement and destruction of the state economy.               

 

The CoR first deputy stressed the endeavors of the legislative authority to protect and maintain the independency of CoI in performing its trustworthy tasks, affirming the CoR readiness to fully cooperate with the CoI to investigate the most serious cases of corruption and assisting the CoI in dealing with pressures it may face from some parties to put hurdles in the way of the investigations in attempts to hide corruption perpetrators from the sight of justice. The first deputy also urged the CoI to get the investigation of some cases accomplished especially for cases that have strategically bad effects on the financial, economical and fiscal situation in Iraq, he added that the more fast we bring corrupts before justice the more we decreasing the financial and administration corruption which turned to be one of the most difficult obstacles in the way of development and construction plans and policies, he called for strong cooperation between the CoI and other Iraqi anti-corruption agencies like the Supreme Board of Auditing and the Inspector Generals Offices.

 

Judge Alaa Jwad Hameed, from his side, illustrated the CoI offices efforts in countering and combating corruption practices and in spreading the culture of integrity  also to immune all the employees in the public services against the dangerous of corruption and protect them from slipping down in the swamp of frauds in providing the public service to their citizens. The principal factor, he insisted, to get the CoI successfully performed its tasks and to take its responsibilities in fighting corruption is the close cooperation between all parties in various levels of responsibilities. Judge Alaa highly appreciated the legislative authority ( CoR) supporting stands to the Commission to perform it tasks, he added that Iraq needs new group of laws that ensure the objective items to implement its commitments is set in the UNCAC as was approved by the Parliament and signed by Iraq in 2007.

 

The CoI Commissioner firmly insisted the need for organizing joined workshops between the CoI and the other Iraqi anti-corruption institutions to draw a clear cut road plan to determine the courses of cooperation and coordination as well as setting out tasks and performing priorities in order to counter our regular enemy namely the corruption which creates forms of danger not less that of terrorism to country and the citizens.
