MoF`s employees sign code of conduct in CoI symposium
Aug 15 , 2012

CoI renewed its call to inspector generals in state ministries to publicize code of conduct to public servants since it is considered one of the legal guarantees to prevent corruption practices in government offices.

A questionnaire of prevention office team of CoI conducted in a symposium with ministry of finance`s employees revealed that  the percentage of employees who know about code of conduct did not exceed 65% between 2010 and 2012. Team members mentioned that this delay reflects the indifference of inspector general office in the ministry to take appropriate measures to expand the knowledge of employees regarding code of conduct and this is the same result of similar questionnaire conducted recently on employees of ministry of sciences and technology.

During the symposium, the team showed contents and goals of code of conduct that obligates public servant to perform his duties with full transparency and not to misuse his post for enrichment or personal interests, to keep employment secrets, not to hide corrupts and adopt principle of justice and fairness among all citizens.

Speakers in the symposium warned against violating terms of code of conduct and make employee subject to legal punishment and deterrent employment procedures that might reach to have the employee imprisoned and fired from his job.

Discussion included contents of CoI`s law 30 of 2011 and tasks assigned to CoI hereunder in addition to code of conducts forms mentioned in UNCAC of 2003 that Iraq joined in 2007.

In their discussions, CoI`s team and MoF`s officials reached  a agreement to insure that all ministry employees sign the code of conduct and to keep a copy of which in their personal files.
