CoI Holds workshop with all oversight Bodies

CoI in cooperation with all oversight bodies in Iraq, under the patronage of Joint anti-corruption council (JACC) held a workshop on 5/7/2012 at Al-rasheed hotel under the title "The responsibilities of oversight bodies in fighting corruption". In addition to CoI, the workshop was attended by parliamentary committee of integrity, Board of supreme audit, supreme judicial council, Inspector general`s offices of all ministries and independent commissions, Integrity committee in Baghdad provincial council, Civil society organizations and Mass media. During the workshop papers of all participated parts were discussed.

The workshop initiated by the speech of the acting commissioner Judge Alaa Jawad Hameed, stated:

"We come under one common concern, one common goal and one common objective even if we all have the same specialty of audit but what ever comes first is our believe in the right of the people in its money to be saved and protected, preserved and invested so nobody can steals that money whatever he was public servant or not, senior or junior."

"Is the map of the various specializations of our oversight bodies is as clear as we have for the other specializations?"

 

This workshop is under the title "The responsibilities of oversight bodies in fighting corruption", which is an important step in our common way that has its expected findings to create the clearance that we have for the other institutions."

From the other hand, the head of JACC stressed in a speech on the efficiency of oversight bodies in fighting corruption, putting common conceptions to develop the oversight work to control the public fund, putting the institutional rules that work on control and fighting corruption and developing the legislation to fit the current situation and joining the international conventions that promote such rules with the necessity of tackling the misunderstanding, ambiguity and confusion on the achievements of the oversight bodies.

The workshop was carried out onto two sessions; the first session handled the papers of parliamentary committee of integrity, supreme judicial council and board of supreme audit. The second session handled the papers of JACC, COI, IGs and Integrity committee in Baghdad provincial council. The workshop concluded with suitable recommendations that fit the nature of the workshop and the mandate of the oversight bodies in Iraq. CoI web site will publish all the researches and recommendations later for more benefit.
