Judiciary settles 556 cases … CoI refers 1031 corruption cases to courts

In the last five months of current year, CoI referred 1031 corruption cases and public money abuses to competent courts.

CoI legal office report indicated that May witnessed the largest number of referred cases and it reached 519 cases, then comes January (386) cases followed by April 313, March 310 and then February 303 cases.

Kirkuk province came at the top of the provinces list with 97 cases in January followed by Al Qadisyah 87 in April; Al-karkh 72 in May followed by Babylon 70 cases in the same month while there were only 5 cases in offices of Kirkuk and Salahuldin in March and April consecutively.

In relevance to that, the competent courts, since the beginning of current year until end of last May, pronounced 556 verdicts against 592 accused persons referred by CoI for financial corruption cases.

Courts obliged the convicted persons to return ID three billions and ninety eight millions to state treasury before their release after they finish their sentences periods.

Missan province is at the top of list of verdicts in 90 cases followed by Kirkuk 75; Al-Karkh 56; Wassit 49; Al Qadisyah 47; Babylon 40; Nineveh 39; Theeqar 35 and Najaf and Salahuldin were at the end of the list with 7 cases for each.
