Media and achieving integrity goals

CoI NGOs` office concluded a workshop named (media role in spreading integrity culture) attended by professors and experts in media. The workshop discussed media role in spreading integrity culture in society and uncovering types of corruption through true pen held by journalist as a monitoring authority that has the ability to be in touch with social life.

During the workshop, two work papers about the goal of the workshop were discussed. The first paper belonged to the association of defending journalists` right in Iraq and the second one belonged to union of broadcasters and television men, and there were many productive discussions.

 

The first work paper of Mr. Hafidh Al-Adily tackled (the media and its role in spreading the culture of integrity). He addressed to how to face the media across borders which increases the corruption and what are the required strong media programs to support Iraqi human rights within his country, resource and effort exerted to build country, life and to get secure future.

 

As the second work paper of Mr. Nadhum Al-egely (the role of media in fighting corruption), in which he called for a comprehensive review for laws which restrict freedoms and for cancelling the laws of press which restrict freedoms and to start awareness campaigns for civil society. Also he urged to establish unions and groups that protect journalists and fight against corruption.    

 

The workshop came out with different recommendations, which will lead to develop media work in serving aims and ambitions of community in spreading integrity and anti corruption culture.

 

The workshop attendants was a big number of media and fighting corruption specialists plus a number of COI staff and COI formal spokesperson who answered the attendants questions regarding COI work.
