Numbers of detainees on cases investigated by CoI reached to (169) during April 2011, (25) were referred to subject court, (43) were released on bails, whereas four of theme were released for non-sufficient evidences.
The specialized subsidiary committees on observing conditions of detainees in Baghdad and provinces investigative offices, visited detention places to know their situations, problems and informing them about progressing of investigative procedures of their cases.
The committee noticed that many detainees have not been moved to specialized correction dept. in Baghdad`s prisons, though they have already been convicted by subject court.
Some detainees in jails and temporary prisons of AL-Najaf province claimed that they have been tortured physically and psychologically, and in AL-Basra and Babel police stations, the committee indicated that the jail was too small and it wasn`t large enough for that number of detainees.
Results of questionnaire for detainees` opinions were as follows:
For the conditions of detainees, the responses with "Good" were rated 79.02%, while the percentage of detainees who were satisfied with detention management was 81.88%.Only (62) of (79) detainees were informed about the procedures process of their cases.(16) Detainees, who gave their opinions in April, were exposed to physical or psychological torture or blackmail or insult, four Detainees were asked to pay a bribe, three detainees paid bribes during the same period.
These committees has organized (64) visits to the prisons where detainees on cases investigated by CoI are detained. (65) detainees were covered by these visits.
