A court-martial in the karakh sector of Baghdad has sentenced on Dec. 27, 2010 a military judge, who was currently posted as a chief justice of military court for al-Najef, to a year and three months for receiving an illegal payment.
The verdict came in consist with article (308) of Iraqi modified penal code of 1969, in addition to dismiss him from the service and deemed the act as immoral.
According to medical reports that the court mentioned in its decision (2034/2010 dated on Dec. 27, 2010), the judge sustains angina, a severe pain in the chest, and a brain tumor that led to grant him a light sentence. Al-Najef investigation office, one of CoI` provincial offices, caught on Jun. 12, 2010 the defendant, who also holding a colonel rank, while collecting a bribe in al-Diwaniya from an informant,previously been blackmailed by the judge.
The colonel has been referred to the military court, after his crime been reviewed by the investigative judge in al-Najef, who looks into the CoI cases.
This year, the commission executed 63 arrests which net in apprehending 238 corruption-related offenders.
