COI’s Investigations Office disclosed details of sentence issued against former Director General of General Company for Grain Trade in Ministry of Trade, indicating that the accused person caused damage to public funds.
The office mentioned, in it speech about case details it investigated by and referred to the judiciary previously, that the accused person, the former D.G of the General Company for Grain Trading, approved cargo of Brazilian rice in (2014) in despite it violating the standard specifications, infested with insect and unfit for human consumption, which resulted in damage to the funds and interests of the body in which he works for.
The office confirmed that the Karkh Criminal Court / First commission, after viewing seizure minutes, auditing report and the administrative investigation minutes issued by the Inspector General Office of Ministry of Trade, in addition to the final minutes of the consultative committee issued by the General Company for Grain Trade and laboratory testing, as well as the presumption of the defendant’s escape from judiciary, are sufficient and convincing to convict him under the provisions of article 340 of the Penal Code No. 111 of 1969.
The court sentenced the defendant in absentia to seven years in prison and issued an arrest and inspection against him with granting Ministry of Trade the right to request compensation before civil courts after the decision became irrevocable.
