Basra investigation directorate follows social benefits funds disbursed for schools rehabilitation in the province

Commission of Integrity disclosed the investigation findings of Basra investigation team concerning the funds of the social benefits spent by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company on the projects of the Ministry of Education in Basra.

The Commission confirmed in a report prepared by its team that met with the Directors General of the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company and the Education Directorate in the province to verify the information contained in the report of one of the satellite channels and monitored by CoI’s Media Center, on corruption suspicions in the disbursement of amounts allocated for social benefits by Iraqi Oil Tankers Company for the projects of Ministry of Education in the province of Basra, the report confirmed that the amounts allocated to the projects of the Ministry of Education in the province during the previous years amounted to (533,138,000) million dinars.

The report, which follows the process of disbursing these funds, noted that no new school was built. In fact, what happened was a rehabilitation of 43 schools of which (40) schools in the Shatt al-Arab district, the amount allocated for these schools amounted to (450,000,000) million dinars, and (3) schools in the district of Hartha, the amount allocated for these schools amounted to (83,138,000) million dinars.

The report pointed out that the Directorate of Education did not receive any funds from the Company during the rehabilitation period, as the Company took the process of funds disbursement to the ex ecuting contracting companies, indicating that the two parties coordinating, to build schools throughout the province in the near future after obtaining the province approvals, to be funded from the social benefits provided by the company.

The total amount of social benefits allocated by the Iraqi Oil Tankers Company to all offices of Basra Governorate amounted to (7,219,261,000) billion dinars, including health services, police leadership, maintenance of water pipes networks, rehabilitation and development of rivers and date palm cultivation, as well as Basra International Airport and Arabian Gulf Academy for Maritime Studies.

It is noteworthy that the Commission announced late last month the results of monitoring and following up the projects and services in the area of Maqal in Basra.
