Investigation Office/COI announced that the Criminal Court on Corruption Cases in Baghdad sentenced, in absentia, the former Baghdad Mayor and DG of the Parks Office in Baghdad Municipality to seven years imprisonment for causing intentional damage amounted (12,000,000) Million Dollars of money and interests of the entity they work for.
The office, while it talking about the details of the case, pointed out that the fugitive culprits, in complicity, damaged money and interests of Baghdad Municipality during the contract concluded with Egyptian and local company, according to the main committee formed in Municipality without preparation the estimated costs of the project. The amount of damage is (12,165,350) million US dollars.
The Court, after reviewing the evidence obtained in this case represented by the statement of legal representatives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Baghdad Municipality, who requested the complaint against the culprits, as well as the administrative investigation including their negligence and referral them to the court, the report of Board of Supreme Audit, statements of Witnesses and runaway of the culprits, accordingly, the Court fund that the evidence is sufficient to convict them according to the provisions of the article 340 PC and based on the compliance articles 47,48 and 49 thereof.
The decision of the court included issuing arrest warrant against culprits, supporting the seizure of their movable and immovable assets and the damaged party, General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and the Baghdad Municipality, have the right to demand the compensation before the civil courts after the decision comes final.
