COI recovers nearly two billion dinars to the State treasury by pursuing convicted fugitives inside and outside Iraq

The Commission of Integrity revealed that it was able to recover the sum of 1,499,802,008 billion dinars and 220,000 thousand US dollars from a number of convicts sentenced in absentia, indicating that its legal proceedings resulted in the introduction of these amounts to the treasury.

COI Office of Extradition stated that it has pursued the funds of convicted fugitives whose criminal actions caused damage to public money, through the way to follow up their funds inside and outside Iraq, through conducting financial investigations to identify balances, stocks, deposits, financial accounts and transfers carried out in Iraq and abroad.

The Office added that it made judicial followed ups to place seizure sign of movable and immovable property of fugitives, in addition to following up with the affected party to obtain a decision of judgment to determine the amount to be recovered, as well as coordination with the Arab and International Police Directorate to ascertain the whereabouts of convicted fugitives against them.

It confirmed that the proceedings resulted in the recovery of the amount of 1,499,802,008 billion dinars and 220,000 thousand dollars from nine convicted in absentia after they paid the amounts owed to their respective departments and entered as revenues in the State treasury, indicated that the affected parties such as Ministries of Education, Defense, Oil and Higher Education, as well as the TBI and the Iraqi Red Crescent Society have recovered their funds.

The Commission of Integrity has announced its ability to recover and prevent waste and stop the disbursement of more than three trillions and a half trillion Iraqi dinars during 2016 and the first half of the current year 2017. End
