CoI revealed today that it challenged the decision of covering the former deputy of IRCA Secretary General (Ahmed Alkarbouli) with the General Amnesty Law.
CoI Investigation office, in the course of talking about the case details, indicated that CoI was not convinced with the decision of covering the convict above-mentioned with the General Amnesty Law, the matter of which require the CoI to challenge the decision and call upon not covering the convicted with the General Amnesty Law.
The Criminal Court on Integrity cases in Baghdad issued a deciosn stated to cover the convict (Ahmed Nasir Dulli Alkarbouli), the former deputy of IRCA Secretary General with the General Amnesty Law no.17 of 2016.
The Court decided to revoke the judgment in absentia and to stop the legal procedures against him in a decisive way, in accordance with the provisions of articles (1, 3) of the General Amnesty Law as far as it related to the case by issuing the decision by agreement according to the provisions of article 3.5 of C.P Law.
CoI declared that many judgments in absentia were issued against former officials and employees at IRCA for affecting the public money.
It is worth to mention that CoI renewed its call for Council of Representatives to enact legislations relating to anti-corruption in order to tackle the defects and insufficiency in the current legal system. Moreover, it called upon not covering the corruption crimes with the General Amnesty Law, as it does not comply with Anti-corruption calls launched by the C.R and Government.
It called the government to take an attitude toward covering the corruption crimes with the General Amnesty Law, as it would handicap the efforts of fighting corruption and limit the role of the National Oversight Bodies.
