A senior official of TI disclosed the organization`s determination to achieve a presence in Iraq for the country`s corruption perceptions and marking its levels.
Christoph wilcke, director of the Middle East and North Africa in the organization said at the conclusion of talks between Iraq and the organization in Berlin that the organization is fully prepared for cooperation with various Iraqi parties on anti-corruption and transparency.
Wilkie explained that the organization closely touched, during the first visit by an Iraqi delegation to the Berlin-based headquarter, the nature of the activities of CoI towards the big problem of corruption in Iraq.
The organization welcomed CoI invitation for TI to attend the international anti-corruption Conference, which is to be held in Baghdad in the beginning of May.
Chairman of the delegation of Iraq judge Alaa Jawad Hamid, head of the Commission of integrity indicated at the conclusion of the Berlin talks that the climate of openness, understanding and transparency prevailed in the general and specialized meetings between the two sides in order to achieve the common goal of shaping the image of corruption in Iraq and its concept and the nature of the parties fighting it.
Judge Hamid expressed his optimism for the future of cooperation with the TI and said that we have encouraged the organization to open a regional office in Baghdad or even adopt a civil society organization in the country for their representation and to convey Iraqi oversight body`s voice to it in addition to an inviting it and Humboldt Viadrina School of governance to attend the international anti-corruption conference in Baghdad. TI operations coordinator in the territory of orient Manuel Perino, praised efforts of various Iraqi parties that fight corruption and said, in a press statement after the conclusion of the discussions, that those parties will serve as ambassadors for TI in Iraq. Perino stressed the organization`s interest in supporting civil society organizations in all countries in the world and said that Iraq is not an exception from this trend being the important States to cooperate with and work in.
In addition to attending joint meetings, Yassin Saaeed, the representative of Iraqi civil society organizations in Iraq pointed out that he had separate meetings with the Director of the Middle East and North Africa division in the Organization and the Coordinator of activities in the territory of the orient for launching a partnership between TI and Iraqi organizations. "We have reached important results", he said. the representative of inspectors generals offices in the delegation, Dr. Nawar dahham is confident that disclosure, clarity and transparency that prevailed in the meetings painted a clear picture of Iraq in the organization and opened channels of constructive communication for marking features and perceptions of corruption in the country precisely to allow for successful actions to control and benefit from the expertise of international parties in this area.
It is worth mentioning that Iraq delegation, during his meetings with the TI officials, viewed a group of reports, statistics and surveys conducted by CoI related to corruption indices and its efforts with the inspectors generals offices, civil society organizations, the media and other state services and what advanced levels Iraq achieved in the implementation of the UNCAC in addition to transparency in extractive industries and working to expose and fight corruption and corrupts.
Delegation suggested series of cooperation projects with Iraq and the first of which is opening an office in Baghdad to coordinate and collaborate with various Iraqi parties and create a strong partnership with civil society organizations and the Iraqi media to ensure getting the information from the correct sources that TI interested in order to make its annual reports related to corruption in the world and Iraq at a high level of accuracy and credibility.
