CoI reveals the imprisonment of a Director General and two employees in the Ministry of Industry for misusing eighteen Iraqi Billion Dinars

The Criminal Court of AL-Rysafa sentenced a former director general for the State Company of the Designs and Industrial Constructions and two employees in the Ministry of Industry for five years in prison for trying to invest (18) Iraqi Billion Dinars from the government funds to gain self benefits.

A report by the CoI investigation office stated that the director general (A.H.A.) connived with the head of the monitoring and auditing in (SH. A.) company and the head of the finance department (H.A.A.) to deposit the amount of money, specialized for buying generators for the company offices, as a fixed deposit in Basra International Private Bank for three months with a 5% interests.

The court depended in its decision of criminalizing the three suspected that the sum of 18 Iraqi Billion Dinars were designated for the investment plan which cannot be spend only for limited specified purposes.

The court noticed that the three convicts’ behavior was against COM decision which stating that it is prohibited to deposit public funds into private banks.

And because the company has damages, the court gave the company the right to sue the suspects in civil courts for compensation.

The court obligated the convicts to turn back the whole sum to the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and they to not be released, after been sentenced, till they turn back the sum of money.
