CoI Questionnaire: Bribery indicators are high in the Iraqi borders

CoI questionnaire revealed that bribery still widespread at most of the Iraqi border ECPs.
The questionnaire included 14 border ECPs at Baghdad, Basrah, Anbar, Nineveh, Wasit, Diyala and Messan except Kurdistan region border ECPs. Questionnaire teams distributed 1213 forms in which 1051were approved. About127 travelers mentioned that they paid bribes to the border ECPs officers, which represents 12% of the covered. Trebeal ECP was the highest with 45% followed by Al-Waleed ECP with 43%, Rabea`a 12%, Abu-Floos port, Basrah airport, Safwan ECP and Baghdad airport came in the end while their was no bribery at Nineveh airport, Muntheria and Alsheb ECPs.
Regarding CoI monthly questionnaire across Iraq, except Kurdistan region, 45% paid bribes in a response to the employee`s demand, 26% paid bribes to expedite their petitions and 20% of them had to pay bribes when the office delayed their petitions or considered it illegal.
