CoI Commissioner Judge Alaa Jawad Hameed praised on the role of press as a fourth authority in supporting and backing the missions of CoI in fighting corruption, spreading the culture of integrity and establishing the props of institutional democratic country in Iraq.
His Excellency also stressed in a speech he delivered during workshop organized by CoI under the title of (The investigative press is a path to transparency) that the efforts of CoI and media institutions meet at the point of truth during its work of shed light on the details of events and recognizing the truth in order to keep the highest interest of the country, keep the public fund and disclose the corruption which threats the society and the country.
The Commissioner also urged the media institutions with all its types on more investigative moving of facts to effectively contribute in the national public demand for fighting and combating corruption and challenging its negative effects on the life.
During the sessions of the workshop conducted at the Iraqi Anti corruption Academy, four researches were tackled which included the history of investigative press and its role in shed lights on the international scandals such as war acts in Vietnam, the scandal of American Famous election (Watergate) and the massacres happened in many places in the world left millions of human behind.
And the researches have shaded lights on Iraqi journalists experiment`s for investigating real events at the time when the dictatorship had been collapsed in 2003 while the media activity was restricted during the last regime and who followed this way to jail. The dialogues and interposition workshop emphasized on necessity of the legal guarantees security for the journalists and preparing the interactions and understanding conditions between them and the information source to show the real events in details in front of the public, this workshop was attended by member of COR (Azhar Al-Sheikhly) and previous member of COR(Salama Al-khfajy), representatives of many ministries, the public offices, media institutions and the general directors in the COI. At the end of the workshop, the audience have recommended rules of legislation for protecting the journalists liberty of information exchange and prevent covering the corruptive persons and encourage the mass media to organize the training courses for employees in investigation fields and benefiting from international experiments and attempt to spreading the integrity culture and strength the multi-parties cooperation to expose the corruptive persons and considering the public money protecting is juristic, ethical and national responsibility.
