Discussing ways of expanding collaboration with South Korea

COI Commissioner,Dr. Salah Noori Khalaf, emphasized that the Commission strives to save and optimize time to reap the benefits of cooperation with international anti-corruption entities.

During receiving the South Korean Deputy Head of Mission ( Joe Tee Hoe), the Commissioner noted that experience of cooperation with the Korean side is very useful for COI and BSA alike, indicating that they looked forward to reap the benefits of this cooperation, open channels and new avenues.

The Commissioner stressed the need to starting a certain work program that takes into account priorities, in particular in terms of developing COI’s staff capacities, notably in the fields of investigation and training of investigators.

For his part, Korean Deputy Head of Mission ( Joe Tee Hoe) indicated that his country is looking forward to develop cooperation scopes with Iraq represented by COI and FBSA, reviewing activities that Korean side is intended to organize in the next few days, especially in the Iraqi-Korean day on July 9.

Prevention Office’s DG who heads coordination committee with Korean side (Dr. Mu’atez Abbasi) noted the importance of cooperation fields between the two sides, stating that MOU between COI and ACRC signed in April, last year, was impressively effective through activities and achievements resulted during one year of concluding it.

During the meeting, the Legal Office’s DG (Mudhir Aljuburi) shed the light on contents of visit undertaken by COI’s delegation to the Republic of South Korea including workshops and seminars, which contributed to familiarize COI’s representatives with the experience of Korea in the field of fighting corruption. Aljuburi noted that the Commission’s aspiration is to expand this collaboration to cover different sides including performance evaluation that the Korean side impressively succeeded in and run this successful experiment to the national oversight bodies work in order to upgrade site of Iraq in the Corruption Perception Index issued by Transparency International Organization.
