Expired cancer treatment drugs seized in public hospital in Basra

CoI’s Office of Investigation revealed that CoI’s Directorate of Investigation of Basra managed to an amount of expired drugs used to treat cancer in a public hospital in the province.

The Office pointed out, while speaking about the details of the seizure operation, that the staff of the Directorate of Investigation of Basra, which moved to the hospital, was able to control large quantities of drugs for the treatment of cancer, including (38.256 ampoules and 90.231 tablets), pointing out that these drugs had expired during the years (2008-2012) as neither legal actions were taken against the negligent nor were they fined, despite a decision was issued, proving the negligence of the needs assessment committee’s doctors.

It confirmed that these important drugs seized during the operation carried out under a judicial writ, cannot be imported by medical drug dealers and are not available in pharmacies, as its importation requires special approvals from the Ministry of Health.

It explained that a minutes of the seized drugs was organized and submitted before the competent investigative judge to take an appropriate legal action.
CoI had, last February, seized more than (3000) life-saving drugs used to treat cancer diseases expired since 2012 in another public hospital in Basra.
