Commission of Integrity recovers $ 3.5 million from a foreign security company to the General Establishment of Civil Aviation

Commission of Integrity revealed that it retrieved more than $ 3.5 million from a foreign security company to the benefit of the General Establishment of Civil Aviation.

In the course of discussing case details, CoI’s Investigation office mentioned the formation of a teamwork form Baghdad Investigation Directorate in the Commission to investigate the received information concerning the violations in the concluded contract between Ministry of Transportation represented by the General Establishment of Civil Aviation and a foreign security company.

The Office explained that the team had moved to Baghdad International Airport and met with the airport manager and the head of contract department to identify the non implemented clauses of the contract, indicating that the total amount of the security equipment approved to be supplied and equipped amounted to (2,560,000) million USD.

It added that a technical committee had been formed to prepare the proposed modification of the exit belts in accordance with paragraph (22) of the contract, which stipulates that the contracted company shall provide security solutions and positive proposals regarding baggage inspection area at the weight zone and achieve basis standards by finding solutions according to the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), pointing out that the amount of the non implemented paragraph above-mentioned is (1,190,000,000) billion dinars.

The Office assured that the committee recommended considering these amounts as debts owed by the foreign company. The recommendations of the technical committee were approved with addressing financial department of the General Establishment of Civil Aviation to instruct the committee of paying security company dues to deduct the said amount.
