In cooperation with CoI and in the presence of its Commissioner, Judge Ezzat Tawfiq Jaafar, the International Conference on Water Scarcity started today to discuss water treatment to stop wasting it, organized by the Ministry of Water Resources under the slogan "Water Conservation, Integrity".
Minister of Water Resources Dr. Hassan Al Janabi affirmed - in a speech to the conference, held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Dr. Barham Saleh, and attended by a number of members of the Council of Representatives, ambassadors, representatives of the Husseiniya Holy Shrine and the United Nations - the importance of the joint work space created by CoI and the Ministry to preserve public money, which water wealth is one of its important elements, pointing to the importance of addressing the waste of water as mush as addressing the waste of public money or other administrative and financial abuses, considering any action or A behavior that leads to the disruption of the potential and capabilities of the Ministry as a form of violating public money and a waste of the national wealth of water, and noting that the lack of water represents an existential threat to the homeland.
For her part, the Inspector-General of the Ministry, Ms. Fatin Mohsen Hadi, praised the fruitful cooperation provided by CoI to the Ministry, represented by the support and use of its expertise as well as potentials to find effective solutions to the water crisis through the awareness campaign in which the CoI participated through its media outlets.
CoI’s contribution is to support the Ministry of Water Resources to address the problem of water scarcity in accordance with its oversight duties set out in its law No. 30 of 2011, which monitors the public money in order to preserve and protect it from wasting and neglect through its educational procedures which include work to develop a culture of integrity, preserve public money, raise awareness of its importance, and the investigative punitive procedures.
The main themes of the conference are the specialized technical aspect, which included the management of water resources in Iraq (reality and challenges) and the regional aspect, which included the file of negotiations with neighboring countries, in addition to the procedural aspect which dealt with the ministry`s procedures in dealing with water scarcity, while the legal aspect highlighted the violations on water and irrigation projects, as well as the draft law of the First Amendment to the Irrigation Law No. 83 of 2017.
The conference included a short documentary about the activities of the Ministry related to water crisis treatments, the opening of a photography exhibition for the Marshlands and Wetlands Rehabilitation Center, and an open discussion sess ion with the participation of representatives of civil society organizations and agricultural associations.
