Thwarting smuggle attempt of 105 trucks loaded wood from northern Um Qasr port

COI Investigation Office revealed that it was able to thwart an attempt to smuggle more than one hundred trucks loaded with wood from the northern port of Um Qasr.

The Directorate of Investigation’s staff were able to implement seizure operation under a writ in the northern port of Um Qasr, resulted seizing of 105 trucks loaded with wood related to one of the private companies were to be smuggled, the Office points.

The initial investigations of the Directorate’s staff led to the existence of manipulation and tax evasion. Assessors indicated for unjustified reduction; related documents of trucks and statement of customs were seized, Southern Region Customs Directorate was approached in order to identify violations occurred there.

While a formal minute regarding the seized exhibits was organized and presented before the investigative judge, accordingly the judge issued arrest warrants against the suspects.

In mid-May of last year, the Directorate was able to thwart attempt of smuggling (1614) tons of chemicals were to be smuggled at the northern port of Um Qasr without security approvals.
