Maysan criminal court issued two default-separated sentences to ten-year imprisonment against former director of Cooperative Agricultural bank and his assistant in Maysan for causing intentional damage to public money. The staff of CoI investigation office at the governorate were able to prevent wasting money, CoI investigation office revealed.
In course of discussing details of the case investigated by CoI, the office assured that the convicts abuse their functions through paying (647) uncovered checks with total amounts IQDs (211. 637. 649. 265) without phone reservation or making clearance to contractors from the account of regions development and expediting construction unlike regulations and law.
The obtained evidence against the fugitive convicted persons were checks, records, forged bills, payment documents, statements of complaints and witnesses as well as the presumption of their escape. The court found the evidence sufficient and convincing to criminalize and convict them based on the provisions of article 316 P.C with reference to articles of association 47, 48 and 49 of the same law.
The sentence gave the affected body (Cooperative Agricultural bank) the right to claim compensation before civil court when the sentences became irrevocable.
Its worth be noted that CoI announced on 30/4/2017, that its investigating and auditing staff stopped paying (647)checks with total amount IQDs 200 billion from the budget of region development allocated to Maysan province for violating instructions and regulations by handing over these bills to Agricultural bank to ensure returning paid amounts with interests.
